My Plea for Help!!!

As I mentioned in the previous post, Kerrigan has started becoming a picky eater...what the HECK?!?!?!

She used to eat and enjoy all foods. We started giving her nibbles of our food early in, with the hopes of avoiding this very problem. Jared gave her mashed potatoes 3 days after we brought her home, for heaven's sake!

Up until 3 weeks ago, we thought we had succeeded...boy were we wrong!

She either refuses to try stuff (waving her hands in front of her face, knocking food out of my hands) or if she does take a bite and doesn't like it, she just lets her mouth hang open until it falls out.

I can't seem to find the common factor in what she doesn't like.

She never has a problem with chicken nuggets, french fries, bread, tacos, burritos, (usually) quesadillas, cheeseburgers and baby food. She always eats her baby food, but I don't want to have to carry a jar around with me all the time!

I have tried baby spoons and forks, my spoon and fork, finger feeding, letting her feed herself, making it fun and cheering at obnoxious decibels when she does take a bite and swallow (which usually works for a few bites, if I can get it in her mouth).

I have tried different textures, flavors and temperatures.

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG?!??!?!?!

So, anyone who has dealt with this, I am in desperate need of advice! How did you get your picky eater to not only eat, but also eat a well balanced meal?

HELP!

I don't know if that is considered picky. Sounds like she eats a lot. (you know isaac has like a list you can count on one hand) :)

I think it's more of asserting her independence kind of thing. She's starting to realize she's the boss of herself. Ainsley went through that too, and she is the best eater ever right now.

Don't try to force her food. Put it on her plate or tray, ignore her and let her try on her own. Ainsley wanted to just do it ON HER OWN.

I would also say try just waiting until she's hungry and she will eat it. Doesn't work with isaac because of his dumb sugar level stuff, drives me nuts, but works fine with ains.

Looking back at your post. Really just let her try feeding herself. It's all about exploring. Then she will eventually be able to use spoons and forks. For now it's all about letting her grubby hands touch the food and get it to her mouth.

It's dirty, but that's the fun part right?!

Sounds like a phase. HOW FUN! :) We are actually dealing with it too. I swear there was a week this month that Tenley lived off graham crackers, with occassional apple sauce. She has just been a brat, and refuses things for no reason. She is doing better this week. Good luck! I have no answers for you, but at least I can assure you that Kerrigan is not the only picky eater. :) I'll check back to your post for my own sake too. :)

Sorry girl Grant wont EAT ANYTHING..I think its just a phase they go through. Hang in there she will pick it back up but I know I was like well heck I dont want him to starve but they will let you know when they are hungrey. Yes let her try it on her own.

You are not doing anything wrong...you just have a normal one-year old. I always tell myself at least she's getting nutrition from drinking milk.

I agree, it is just a phase. This is where you decide what kind of parent you will be. j/k!

Shorty went through a phase similar. I followed the advice of multiple books and they convinced me she wouldn't starve herself.

I didn't force or fight, just waited until she was hungry, but I limited her options. If she was hungry enough she would eat the green beans or whatever it was.

HTH! Good luck!
